Gerritsen Chamber Institutes June Walking
The first annual June Walk, to be sponsored by the Gerritsen Beach Chamber
of Commerce in cooperation with local churches and schools, was held Saturday afternoon.
Several hundred local youngsters and mothers took part in the colorful parade, featured by
elaborate floats and costumes. Shown are particpants in the line of walk.
Gerritsen Beach Youngsters Hold Annual June Walk
The younger element in Gerritsen Beach had their day on Saturday when the
Gerritsen Beach Chamber of Commerce held its annual June Walk. More than 2,500 youngsters,
decked out in their finery, took part in the event. Cooperating with the chamber of
commerce were various church, veteran, political, and civic organizations of the area.
The line of march was from the foot of Lois Avenue to Gerritsen Avenue,
to Whitney Avenue, to Whitney Mansion in Marine Park, where the festivities reached their
climax with the serving of refreshments.
Arrangements were in charge of Mrs. John J. Kennedy. Police Inspector
Michael T. Ahearn and Deputy Inspector Cornelius O'Leary led the procession. More than 100
floats and decorated baby carriages appeared in the march, adding color to the occasion.
