This picture of a bungalow on Plumb Beach was taken circa 1920. My
(Jim Fetter) grandfather built this from the ground up. My dad told me stories of
setting the pilings. He never realized then how dangerous it was standing in a mud hole
10-15 feet deep. My dad and grandfather spent almost every moment they could at this
retreat. Of course this is pre-Belt Parkway. A related story talks about the
House Wreckers. I suspect this was probably
the demise of the bungalow. My dad told me he remembers my grandfather being pressured by
the "government." Rather than capitulate, he burned it himself. I'm sure he was
broken-hearted. (Courtesy Jim Fetter)
