Brooklyn's Lone Vamps Still Active

Gerritsen Beach has the only volunteer fire department doing active duty in Brooklyn today. When it was organized in 1920 it consisted of apparatus shown below. The equipment today consists of two motor vehicles such as pictured above. There are 30 members of the company. The upper left inset shows Chief Edward Coamey, the right inset shows deputy chief Harry Mulvehill. Since organized, the company has extinguish all blazes at the beach and in no case has one succeeded in getting further than the point of origin.
