Anybody out there remember how things were on the 4th of JULY??? Boy, everybody and their brother were selling firecrackers. I'm not talking about those miserable "M-80's", just the 1 1/2 inchers. Thay were great!!! We used to set them off all day, all night, and the day after, we were down on the beach looking for duds. The duds were fun. You would bend them till they split open, the powder was visible,.. you would light them, drop them and stomp on them, and they would blast. We stuck them in cans,. the regular ones,...in trees, car exhausts,.. anywhere they fit,..light them,.. back off and hold your ears. Today,.. PHOOEY,..its against the law,... just because some bums have to increase the power, make 1/2 sticks of dynamite,..so all of the firecrackers, in NY state are outlawed. With those 1 1/2 inchers, if you got short-fused, all you got was a bad sting, like ...if you hit your finger with a hammer. Them lousey M-80's will blow your fingers off!!!! Its a shame, the small things that made life interesting has to be rouned by people who look for nothing but profit! The term "Good old days" although kind of rough, really was "GOOD" Now, in a world plagued with drugs, AIDS, and every imaginable vice,..I would not want to be a child again. It seems that there is no room for childhood. I guess its the price we pay for advancement.
