Has anyone ever noticed that the house located at 120 Beacon Court is facing Bartlett Pl and not Beacon Court? The Swensen sisters (Jane, Loraine & Mabel) owned the house back in the 1920s. I remember Loraine telling me the story of how she and Jane had bought the house when it was first built (around 1924 - around or just before the time the new section was being built). They thought it would be nice if they faced the water so they brought men to raise the house up and they had horses turn it to face the canal which was then just beach. She told me that courts would run to Bartlett Place and then just slant down into a sandy beach (the canal). There were no Bartlett or Gotham houses up yet so the canal was actually twice as wide.
