I believe you are talking about the Rambergs who lived at the foot of Gotham Ave. I remember that they were very nice people.
I believe they were sleeping on the floor (no AC back in those days) and the intruder first killed their dog, then the couple, then ransacked the house. I believe the man convicted was a part-time handyman that they had befriended.
I also rmember a murder around Christmas of 1985 somewhere near the war in the Old Section...maybe it was Nova Ct? Plus I remember at least two floater, one in the canal. But, compare the number of murders that occured in GB over the last 70 years with any other neighborhood. GB still is a great neighborhood.
