My father used to tell the story of how he, Ed Tomlinson, his sister Florence and his mother Flora would go to Plumb Island (now Plumb Beach) before the Belt Parkway was built thus connecting the island to Sheepshead Bay. They took a row boat from the new section and went towards Plumb 3d St (where TGIF is now) which was open to Sheepshead Bay. At high tide they had no problem but at low tide they would have to get out of the boat and drag it across the shallow waters. Once on Plumb Island they would set up a tent for the summer and row back and forth to the island camp site on weekends. The tent stayed set up complete with camping equipment, etc and no one touched a thing.
My father came here from Philly when his father died and they lost their house during the depression. They lived with Buddy Olsen's family at 20 Dictum Court when they first arrived. Buddy's mother and my father's mother were sisters. They bought the house at 105 Bartlett Pl before WW II. When my father returned from the war he married my mother, Alice Sparks from 113 Ivan Ct, in 1946.
