posted December 20, 2000 16:51 S=ET We use to hit from the Civic Club, we played mostly pitch in stickball, and sometimes we did hit the spaulding or pennsy pinkie over the roof at the Tamaqua. We may have hit your car back then who knows laugh. We also played in the Tamaqua lot but it was too busy most of the time and we use to hit Mrs Benecke's house too much so we mostly played between Civic Club and the Tamaqua. |

posted December 16, 2000 14:47 S=ET Richard-- We lived at 6 Nova Court. I'm sorry but I don't recognize your name, possibly because I was 5 when we moved to NJ. E-mail me and try to jog my memory. I'll check with my mother also. |

posted December 16, 2000 09:58 S=ET Arthur Stich where were you living that was 3 houses off the water? I was at 8 Lester Court and that was 5 houses from Shellbank Creek. We had the same problem with the house and got the same redponse. Seems that Government in those days were more responsive to the people. I had an Uncle visiting us when they shot off those guns. He went under the table and of course my youth thought it amusing. Then I found out he had 2 LST's blown out from under him and my attitude changed immediatly. Do tou recognize my name cause I sure as hell know yours. |

posted December 16, 2000 09:51 S=ET Virginia that name sounds like the right place. I know the name Al Schroeder but I don't associate it with the Drug Store. |

posted December 15, 2000 00:51 S=ET I have known about and enjoyed this site for the past year, but I just registered as a member -- don't know what took me so long!! First of all I would like to thank Marret for this "gift" to all GB residents, past and present. What a wonderful way for us to reminisce and to find old friends. One friend that I have been hoping to get back in touch with is Judy Nelson Ramos. She moved to New Jersey and I never did get her address. Does anyone know Judy? She lived on Dare Court with her husband, Mike, and their 3 children. I would love to hear from her again. I am still at the same address and phone number in Arizona that she has. I would love to hear from any old friends who happen to read this message. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season. Happy New Year! |

posted December 11, 2000 16:23 S=ET I remember the 16 inch guns going off. They not only shook the house but the revibrations cracked the cellar wall and water started to seep in. We were the third house up from the creek. My father called Fort Tilden and they sent over a crew to fix it but Pop said he would fix it himself and they can pay for the hydralic cement he needed. They paid. He did. |

posted December 11, 2000 13:09 S=ET How many of you folks out there remember the rattling windows and dishes caused by the 16 inch cannons being fired at Fort Tilden. Or those that lived in the vicinity of Shellbank creek the shuddering of the house as the Navy crash boats headed uo the creek to Sutters for servicing. They had to back out because they couldn't turn around due to their length. Or how about carrying the milk can up to the milk station to get milk. Can someone tell me the name of the drugstore at the corner of Cyrus and Gerritsen Ave during the 40s? |
