posted December 15, 1999 13:08 S=ET My mother recently got a christmas card from someone from the Beach and included was the e.mail address. I am in awe of all the entries, pictures etc. Its been a wonderful trip back for me. I moved when quite young (9) to the Cape . My memories are of living on Aster Court, my dad coached the baskeball teams (girls and boys). I remember a lot of sports that my dad and brothers(Rob and Rick) were involved in. I would get the great honor of being the mascot, and still have my St. James jacket with the number 00 on the back, its in shiney blue and gold. If my memeory serves me well I remember fireworks every week in the summers, and the minstrels at St. James with kiddie movies, and numerous games for the kids. My dad would sing in the shows and we would sometimes sing "Me and My Shadow" together. My dad is gone now, Mom lives four miles from us here. My husband David and I have four children, 3 girls and one boy, all in various stages of college and careers, and high school. My mother, Gloria, is doing very well, very active . Rick is in Stamford, CT and Rob lives in Canada. Well I wish you all the best of holidays and a wonderful new year. I haven't finished looking through the site yet but plan too. Thank you to all who worked so hard in making it possible. We were sorry we could not make it to the reunion events for St. James. Denise Doepper Ilkovich |

posted December 15, 1999 08:53 S=ET I remember the Graham and PS149. I remember we use to eat at a store for lunch during the school days. Can't remember the name. I lived on Plumb 2nd street and this was a treat for me as I always went home for lunch. They were very strict and for the life of me I don't know why I would like to eat there. The food wasn't that great. |

posted December 14, 1999 18:00 S=ET Remember when you were 12and older they charged us adult prices but made you sit in the childrens section. This caused many conflicts with the ushers chasing us from one section to the next. I am not sure of the year but they raised the price from 17cents to 25 I think.Well all of us young guys marched on the theatere one night chanting "DOWN WITH PRICES AND UP WITH BALDY" BALDY at that time was the manager,at least thats what the kids called him.The large group of adults in front of McQuillans and the group from the sugar bowl cheered and egged us on.Ther was at least 30 of us chanting and running thru the emergency doors and across the stage. When the cops arrived kids scattered thru the weeds we ran like hell it was a night to remember.Does anyone out there recall the event, and will you own up to it now? This is but one of the fun things that old guns did. |

posted December 14, 1999 15:54 S=ET What are your favorite Graham movie memories? Apart many fond memories within the theater, I remember my step-father on his way to work at the Ave. U Bar & Grill, spotting my brother, Bobbie, age 10, smoking a cigarette. Whitney Ave. was still unpaved, and my father picked up a couple of stones to throw across the street at my brother. My brother spotted this, and ran and stood in front of the glass where the movie posters were displayed so my father couldn't throw a rock at him. He was saved for the time being, because my father had to run for the bus. |

posted December 8, 1999 21:18 S=ET To everyone who attended the great reunion, best wishes to you and your family: To Ed Coffey, I'm sorry our meeting was soon brief, hope to see you again and catch up... that goes for Jimmy Breslin, and so many more childhood friends. By the time we got close enough to the read the name tags, we by-passed several other friends from a wonderful past in the beach. It was great to see Joe and Gloria (St. John) Leone, and was sorry Jimmy Leone wasn't there. Bill and Ann (Jest) Yard are always a pleasure, and who doesn't know and love Danny Rogers. Too numerous to mention everyone, but in addition to childhood friends, there are new friends thanks to this site... Now some of you may not realize what your missing by not responding to letters from an old friend or acquaintance, or taking it upon yourself to write someone. |

posted December 6, 1999 17:08 S=ET You're right Rich, where is everyone. Perhaps we're all a little tired and written out, after the Thanksgiving weekend blitz that hit the GB site. I was talking to Billy Klein today, he being of the famous Lester Court Kleins, and he and his wife Diane just returned from sunny Florida and their new second home, and he asked me if I have heard from anyone else from the "old days" and I was happy to reply that I have indeed heard from some of the old gang... like, Barbara Morhrmann (nee Carlsen) and Norma Drown (nee Larsen) |

posted December 6, 1999 15:30 S=ET Must be everyone's shopping for...what?Stuff? While it comes but once a year, Christmas is not a reason to stop all other activities. Either you people start communicating again via this site or I'll invoke the 'Terrible Beach Baby Buddies & Brat's Rats Blues Cloud'; for a less than joyous Christmas. As you all know, the'Cloud' song was first unpublished and unrecorded as Christmas song sung by BB King from the dock of the former Yacht Club in 1959. That was just before the wild woman of the Tamaqua, Lucille, pushed him into the drink for making too much noise under her window. It was later reported he screamed he was Blue...from the cold! Many think that he really fell for Lucille, during that incident! However, and once again, don't PLAY with us here, 'cause B.B. IS watching and he's checking his list, etc.!!Try to get along, don't be naughty, be nice...and keep your peers happy for the holiday. Write, already!! |

posted November 28, 1999 11:55 S=ET Enjoyed the Oct 1999 Resurrection reunion. It was great to see Father Clancy, Jim "Red" Brandow, Ed Coffee, Jim Amberger, Matt Thompson, John Rudden, et al. I left Brooklyn in June 1957; I had no idea who was still with us. Wonderful to have seen all of you. I was deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Walter P. Donnelly's passing. I was hoping to see him at the reunion. Probably an unrealistic expectation given his age. Mr. "D" gave of himself for the benefit of countless young men. He did more than teach us how to play baseball and groom a baseball diamond. He gave us younsters an example of how a gentleman should behave. Those of us who were privileged to have known him owe him a debt of gratitude for we are better men for the experience. Mr "D" was truly one of the "good guys" to walk this earth. |

posted November 26, 1999 17:14 S=ET Can not agree enough with everyone else, Marret. You have created an entire demension for the many minds and souls who wonder about, long for and desire a chance to return to an era of our lives unknown by our children; even if it's for just a short time. You are exceptional in your consideration of all and your ability to gather the stardust of so many lives and sprinkle it across a new thechnical medium of human contact. BRAVO! |

posted November 26, 1999 10:24 S=ET Was so happy to read about kids going around Thanksgiving morning saying "Anything for Thanksgiving?" It was an unwritten law and strict orders from my Mother that we had to quit going around before noon so as not to bother the Mothers getting Thanksgiving Dinner ready for their families. |

posted November 25, 1999 19:12 S=ET Maureen- Jimmy and Helen Roache moved upstate NY. I don't know where their "kids" are living now. Mike McBride- I remember your grandfather well. My mom would write her order on a slip of paper and John would get the groceries for us and write the prices on a paperbag-no adding machines then. He was always friendly and courteous. Joe DeBona - I grew up with Donna and Chris. Haven't seen Chris since 1968 when I moved back to NY from Ca. Laura Arscott - we also went to P.S. 277 together. Do you remember going on a trip with your folks and bringing me back a doll (sans clothes) as a gift! C |
